Sweet reads

Last night I finished the fourth book by Lauren Conrad, The Fame Game, and immediately got online to see when the next one was coming out. (No luck)

I'll admit I was extremely hesitant about picking up her first book L.A. Candy.
A reality tv star writing a book? Ugh.  (Of course I was more horrified by the idea of Snooki writing one)
Not that I didn't like Lauren. On The Hills (another thing I was hesitant about especially since it aired during my f*ck the mainstream days) she was by far my favorite.
I adored her and every thing she did and screamed at her when she turned down an opportunity to go to Paris. She was like a big sister in my head.

Anyway, I was looking for a fun summer read when I came across a picture of her book on Tumblr.
What the Heck? I thought and headed down to my public library taking out all four books.

The first few chapters of L.A. Candy were unimpressive. Still it helped achieve the out of my own mind experience I was looking for so I kept reading.
By the middle of the book I was hooked. I HAD to know what happened next and who the characters in the book were created after in The Hills series. (I have my theories)
The books got better as I went through the L.A.Candy series and began The Fame Game series. Better written, better story line and better drama!
Just what I needed ;)
These books are definitely my new guilty pleasure.

If you have not read the series and plan to then do not read the rest as I will ruin it for you!!!!!!

My favorite character in the books now that I'm all caught up is Madison.
I know, I know she's a mega bitch and I loathed her at first too but as soon as the truth about her past came out I felt that I related to her the most.
When someone grows up the way she did it is completely understandable that you would become hard and self serving. The girl did what she had to do.

In The Fame Game when her father appears and she begins to soften I find myself crying at certain points during the book when she's alone and just thinking about everything.
Not that her thoughts are particularly moving but it reminds me so much of my own past that I can't help it.
During the entire book I felt hesitant about her father just like she did and felt so bad for her when he ran off with that diamond necklace.
Poor girl, I can't wait to see how she handles everything in the next book and I hope her and her sister become close.

Who's your favorite character and why?

Why I generally choose not to debate

I love a good debate.
I love talking to people with different opinions and ways of thinking.
It expands my mind and helps me see things in a different way.

However, I am always incredibly picky about who I debate with.

People become ridiculous when they're debating.
It could be anything from what the best type of toast is to the stereotypes of different races and they will pull out name calling if they think it will get their point across.

People don't know how to debate things properly.
They use idiotic points and only repeat the same one good point they made over and over again becoming smug because they think they're winning when in reality the other person is just growing tired of debating with a moron.

It is rare that I can find a person that I can debate with in a calm, intelligent and adult way.

This is why I rarely debate. I don't like falling into an infinite loop of idiocy.

Thanks for listening.

MI so INTO this online fashion shop

I always try to support local businesses so I was excited when I was introduced to Miinto!
Miinto is an online fashion shop that partners with their local specialty boutiques and gives them the opportunity to reach online shoppers all over the country!
Amazing right?
You can explore the site by category, brand, or boutique or just type what your looking for into the search bar. It's easy peasy!
I especially love that each boutique has a picture of the actual store!
A couple of my favorites:
The brand Lush
Especially their Blue indigo dress. Omgsh so pretty.
The Boutique Allison's Vintage Clothing which has fun clothes and gorgeous accessories.
I also came across the Miinto blog Passion For Fashion which is a fun read with awesome pictures.
My critters, check out Miinto.com and while your exploring hop on over to Facebook and "like" Miinto as well as Le Cafe De Lapin for a $15 gift card courtesy of our friends at Miinto.com!
How exciting!

Start your day with a positive sip!

I've gotten into the habit of starting my day with a good cup of coffee, a relaxing chant and a quick mile run.
As someone who suffers from depression I am always looking for more ways to keep my mind in a positive state.
This is why when I came across this adorable mug ($5 on sale) at Cotton On yesterday I had to have it!
"Today is going to be a great day!"
It sure is coffee mug thanks to your uplifting message!

Abercrombie & Fitch

A few years back I had a bad experience in an Abercrombie & Fitch back in Massachusetts. I'm sure everyone has had a bad experience in that store but this particular experience has stuck with me throughout the years.
I was looking for a job at the time and decided to give Abercrombie a go. Why not right? I liked their clothes.
I walked in and approached the boy at the register who was super sweet and showed me where to apply. After my application was done I asked the same boy if I could speak with a manager about scheduling an interview.
"Sure!" He said and I followed him over to a brown haired  girl who was busy putting clothes away.
"There's a girl here who wants to ask about an interview" he told her.
"Oh okay!" She said and stood up.
When she turned to look at me the look of disgust on her face was so horrible I felt like I was some piece of dog shit that she had just stepped on.
"Tell her we're not hiring!" She snapped and returned to her work. The boy came over to me looking sorry.
" I heard her" I told him "Thank you though your really nice."

At the time I was a little heavier than I am now which is why I assume she was so disgusted by me.
(Cause you know, girls with actual woman curves are so horribly disgusting how dare I even think it was okay to enter her skinny only store.)
Anyway, the experience has stuck with me throughout the years and still leaves me with this horribly angry and bitter feeling whenever I think about it.
I understand that they have a specific look that they have to match when hiring new employees but its completely inexcusable to treat anyone that way just because they don't fit your idea of beauty.

The siren is calling

And who can resist her call when she does?
I sure can't.

I was always a Dunkin Donuts girl. Pfft Starbucks I thought who's going to pay $5 for a cup of coffee?
Then I moved to California where there is a Starbucks on every corner and the closest Dunkin Donuts is in Nevada.
For a year I avoided it always stopping in a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf or a Petes Coffee and Tea instead. Eventually I moved to an area where there was ONLY Starbucks and so finally I gave in to the Sirens call.

Now, I have a registered Starbucks card and have reached Gold level membership. Which means I drank a lot of coffee.
The other day I was sipping my daily Starbucks before work and found myself staring at the iconic Starbucks symbol.
Who is this girl? I thought to myself. What does it mean?

Did you know that the girl on our Starbucks coffee cup is a Mermaid? A Mermaid! A siren of the sea. Those mythical creatures that lured sailors to their watery doom.
Fitting, without the watery doom part.

In 1971 when Starbucks was still new they were searching for the perfect icon to capture the seafaring of coffee and Seattle's seaport roots. Finally, they came across the image of a 16th century Norse woodcut of a twin-tailed mermaid.
It must have been love at first sight otherwise she wouldn't still be around! Changed yes but still the same mermaid she was when they spotted her in 1971.

There's something about the knowledge that my favorite coffee is represented by a Mermaid that makes it a little more special.

The most amazing moment of my week

Was when I walked into a Starbucks desperate for some caffeine before my morning shift.
I looked up half awake at the menu and there it was

Mocha Coconut Frappucino

It's back! Oh happy day!

Cashier rants

What the Hell is wrong with people?

You think that just because I'm a cashier that I'm below you?
Well I'm not.

You don't know what's going on in my life!
Maybe I'm in school to become a doctor or a lawyer!
Maybe I've gotten my degree in something but due to the poor economy I have to work as a cashier until I find a job in my field.
You don't know!
So don't treat me like I'm an idiot with no future just because I'm ringing up your clothing.

Odds are I'm probably smarter than you are especially since you feel the need to belittle me.
That just shows me that YOU are probably a moron.

If I make a mistake its because I'm HUMAN!
I'm allowed to make mistakes.
As long as I apologize and correct the mistake then you have no reason to treat me like shit.

Learn some fucking manners.

Banana ice cream

So I'm slightly addicted to Pinterest especially when I'm crazy bored.
During one of my pinning frenzies I came across a cute little post for banana ice cream.
It took me a couple days but I finally tried it out and here are the results.

Omgsh.
Best thing in the world right now. It tastes so so good!

Here's how I made it.

1. I used two bananas because I fudged up the recipe by throwing the whole banana in the freezer. -_-
You have to PEEL and cut up the banana and THEN put it in the freezer for one or two hours.

2. Dump the banana slices in a blender.

3. I added a little coconut milk because my blender needs a little liquid to work right.

4. Literally one spoon full of peanut butter.

5. Blend baby blend!!

6. When its smooth and creamy scoop it out and eat!

Delicious!!

Try it out and let me know what you think. Did you add anything to it?

My love for Learnvest

Hey everyone!
I have been M.I.A. lately and I apologize.

I thought I'd drop in and give a quick review on something I fell in love with this past week.

www.learnvest.com

I am totally idiotic when it comes to controlling my finances.
I find myself frustrated at the end of the month when it comes time to pay bills and I have nothing left over.
Where the Hell did all my money go?! I think.
I have no savings and feel like I only make enough to pay my bills.

Oh boy was I wrong!

Turns out I make enough to pay my bills, put money away and! Do a little shopping!

They sync to your bank account (which is completely safe I checked before I synced mine.) And put all your purchases into individual folders.
Gorceries, bills, shopping, entertainment, etc.
You can move incorrectly labeled purchases into their correct folders and see what you spend all your money on.

They have you set your own budget and put your through bootcamps that teach you something new everyday about controlling your money.

I feel empowered by LearnVest and can't wait to finish my bootcamps so I can be the best financial diva I can be.

My next thing to try is the Android app loot!

Guys and Girls

I generally prefer to hang out with guys over girls. I can swear and act perverted and not be judged.
I can play video games, laugh about stupid things, watch action or horror movies and argue about nerdy topics.
Most girls are a little too uptight for me. They're better for shopping and girl talk.

So recently I have befriended a male co worker and we've hungout a few times.
One day on Facebook I made a post about us hanging out and the next day was questioned about it at work from a girl friend of mine.
"Your husband don't care?!"  She asked me
"No." I said "why should he?"
She told me that her husband would never allow it and that girls and guys can't be friends if one is married.
I totally disagree.
"Well wouldn't it bother you if he was hanging out with another woman?" She asked.
"No." I said "I totally trust him. He's not about to cheat on me and if he does ill find out eventually and ill leave him."

I had a similar conversation with an older woman I know earlier today. She asked me who I was waiting for and when I told her who she asked
"What is he to you?" I looked at her confused and said
"A friend."
"Oh I thought maybe a boyfriend." She said and I told her that I'm getting married soon and that my guy friend is like a brother.
"Oh well you too can't be friends. Guys and girls aren't suppose to be friends if one is in a relationship."
I sighed and told her I didn't believe that.
Her reasoning was that one always falls for the other. This makes sense to me however, wont we face that same issue with a same gender friend? Especially in today's world.
Why should gender get in the way of friendship?

Here's how I see it.
When it comes to opposite sex friends it needs to be made clear from the beginning that it is a strictly platonic relationship.
If your in a relationship you should tell them.
From there as long as your significant other is okay with it, your being honest and the two friends don't hang out in non public places then there's nothing wrong with it.
If your in a relationship and you develop feelings for your friend then you don't truly want to be with your spouse.
If your friend develops feelings for you then you find a way to make it work letting your friend know that there's no chance or you end the friendship.

What do you think about opposite sex friendships?

My local JC Penney store review

Customer service is a big deal to me. As a retail employee I believe in always providing excellent customer service and as a customer I expect to always recieve excellent customer service.

This is why I have decided to start reviewing my local shops.
In these reviews I hope to provide my readers with honest reviews on customer service, price, atmosphere and general Ups and downs of my experiences.

I never really shopped at JC Penney on my own. I had many of experiences as a child of being dragged into a local Penneys by my Nana but had never gone in as a customer with the intention of buying.
I must say I was dissapointed.

I was never once greeted by an associate and I must have past a total of five. Not one paid any attention to me.
My first stop was the shoe department where I fully intended on purchasing a new pair of shoes.
Many caught my eye and one pair in particular I really wanted.
I must have stood in the shoe department for at least 15 minutes checking out the shoes and not once did either of the two sales women approach me asking if I needed help.
So I walked away.
I shouldn't feel like I am being a bother for wanting to buy a shoe.

My next stop was the clothes. I looked all around and found some really cute things but again I was never approached by an associate and I needed a different size in a top I loved.
I also noticed its one of those stores that don't really display their clothes so that just by looking around me I can see a majority of the available merchandise. They have a decent lay out in certain sections but all in all you have to dig.
I hate digging for clothes.
The perfect atmosphere for me is when everything is displayed and organized.

I went into the fitting room and tried on a pile of clothes. From an associates perspective you should always have a fitting room attendant. Not just for customer service reason but for loss prevention reasons! I can almost guarantee that a majority of their theft happens in the fitting rooms.

Most JC Penney stores now have a Sephora inside. I LOVE this. Sephora has amazing products and there aren't nearly enough stores around.
I stopped in Sephora to pick out some mascara and wasn't greeted by anyone until I had been in there for a few minutes. The woman was perfectly nice but tried a bit too hard to get me to buy an expensive mascara despite the fact that I told her I needed something affordable. She claimed she was currently wearing the $22 mascara and loved it then walked away when I insisted on the $12 one.
A side note on this sales woman.. she had so much makeup on I thought she was a drag queen at first glance. Which would have been amazing if she was a drag queen. I probably would have bought the $22 mascara from her had she been but she was just a tall woman with too much makeup. That turned me off to any advice she might give.
I made my purchase from the same sales woman and found myself irritated by her pushiness to by a replacement plan on a watch I was buying. I understand they have to sell them but if I don't want it then stop pestering me. Then when she rang up the $12 mascara she claimed to be wearing that same one.
Uhm..didn't you just say you were wearing the other one?
I don't look too kindly on lying.

When everything was purchased I left for home and returned the next day to make a return.

The second experience was a little better.
I got a cashier named Julie and she was very professional and genuine. She had a short conversation with me and even helped me look for a new pair of jeans without being too pushy.
Now THAT is what customer service is.
Thank you Julie.

Overall grading for JC Penney West Covina, CA

Customer service: D (would have been an F if not for Julie)
Prices: B+
Atmosphere: B-
Overall grade: C

Thanks for reading!
Let me know how to improve my reviews!

Loreal Nail Color Review

My eyes are always drawn to the beautiful colors and bottles in the Loreal section of makeup aisles.
It took me months but I finally gave in and purchased my first Loreal nail color.

The first color I purchased was Paparazzi Pleaser. (As suggested by the Spoiled LA Girls.)
It was a beautiful deep purple color that I absolutely love!
Unfortunately, it chipped in a matter of days.

I decided to give it another try and picked up a lighter color called Sweet Nothings. (Pictured)
I am not as in love with this color as I was with the first and I assume that this color will chip just as quickly. Also, It was more difficult to put on not covering the the bottom area of my nail as well as the rest.

I have had the same results with Essie nail color in the past and am generally unimpressed with the more expensive and "luxurious" nail colors.

My conclusion is that there is no difference between the $1.99 nail polishes and the $5.99 nail polishes other than a pretty bottle and a hyped up brand name.

Girls, I suggest you head over to the NYC, Wet & Wild or even Sally Hansen section of the makeup department, select your nail polish from there and save a couple bucks.

Color Tattoo by Maybelline

I had been hunting for a bright colored eyeshadow for spring that I could afford when I saw the commercial for Color Tattoo by Maybelline.
I wonder if it really works I thought and was hesitant about my purchase for a few days.
Finally I picked it up at my local Kmart and the next day wore it out for my Birthday.

7:30 am I applied it to my eye lids and was immediatly impressed with its color. It's so bright and beautiful. It was also very easy to apply, two layers achieving the intensity I was looking for.
Well, I thought, the color is great but let's see how long it lasts.
I went about my day, breakfast with co workers, shopping around town, and dinner with my husband.
9:30 pm I got ready to wash my face and looked in the mirror absolutely amazed.

The color was still bright, it was still perfectly in place, no smudges, no running, and no loss of color at all!
It also washed off easily!
Amazing! I will be buying more Color Tattoo in different colors.

For those of you on a REAL budget like myself the cost of this Color Tattoo eyeshadow is $6.99.
For girls like moi that's a good chunk of change and its hard to hand over.
I promise you though it is totally worth it!

Anthropologie

One year ago I was a seasonal employee at Anthropologie.
It was THE BEST job I ever had.

On April 12 I have the chance to work there again. They are holding open interviews at my nearest location and I am hoping so hard that they hire me again.

Lucky me my birthday is before the interview so I get to shop for clothes and check out the store before the interview.
I can't wait to share my findings with you all.

Wish me luck!

Birthday!

Next week is my birthday and I'm super excited!
I am turning 22!
I haven't had a good birthday in years so this birthday is so meaningful to me since it is going to be a day filled with friends shopping and my love.
It starts with a breakfast at IHop with 2 maybe 3 fantabulous girls! Then some me time while I drink some (free!) coffee at Starbucks and shop for new shoes! The day will end with a nice dinner and a movie with my husband. :)
The next day I get some guy time with a couple of my guy friends at a local Hooters. Woot! Hot girls and Hot wings!

Did I tell you guys my goal?
I want to lose 10 pounds and tighten up my body as much as I can by the end of April so that I can get a job at Hooters.
Send me mental motivation!

Happy Tuesday! I hope you day is a good one!

Love,
Julia

My Great Grandmother

This picture is of my great Grandmother and Grandfather on their wedding day.

I cannot stop staring at it. Isn't it fascinating to look at moments in time from before your time?
It's amazing to look at where I came from.

I never met my Great Grandfather but my Great Grandmother spent a lot of time with me when I was young.

She taught me to draw and paint and I believe I inherited much of her personality. She was such a firecracker and had a thing for pinching cute guy's behinds. Haha

My Grandmother passed away recently but she is immortal through all the people she loved and made laugh.

I miss you Great Grama <3

Fashion

Nothing in the world gives me the amazing feeling that fashion does. I can't explain why or even put into words the warm tingly sensation I get whenever I see an amazing dress or a perfect window display. I'm sure though that there is something that that makes you feel the same way and so you understand.

It only made sense that I go into fashion as a career. I plan on attending FIDM as soon as possible and in the mean time have started my own consignment shop online.
I am so proud of my tiny shop and I love going out and hunting for new things to sell.

My favorite by far are these vintage heels from the 60s and a unique Chanel scarf that I almost kept for myself.

I made a few mistakes at the beggining and had to stop for a short while but soon my business will be back up!

I'll be sure to share every step of it here. :)

Life is funny

It's brings us on such crazy roller coaster rides and never explains why it has done so.
Yet it all works out in the end.
All those crazy frustrating experiences end up working in our favor.
It's beautiful.
